hi guys, need some help with the outlining a geometry.
i tried wireframe already but the lines can't go to the thickness i desired it to be.

been trying to get the toon outine to work (under the toon tab the add "toon outline" pfx)
but one problem is that i just want the line to go around the geometry and not inside.
so for example,
a sphere will be just a circle;
a square will just be a hexagon (going around the square and NOT its inside)
a cylinder will be just a pill-shaped outline (does not show the 2 lids)

much appreciated if anyone know any adjustments to 'get rid' of the inner lines

thx !

Though I haven't used it myself for this exact thing, I have seen options in mental rays' contour rendering
that might allow for that, specifically an option that refers to the silhouette.  That might be a place to look

Yes, I'm seconding Eric's comment.

I haven't played a lot with the PFX option so I can't really help there....

As Eric mentioned it is possible to just render just an outline with the contour renderer.  It'll be found under Mental Rays contour render settings.  (I don't have Maya on this laptop so I can't double check the exact location...)

Line thickness is found under the Shader Group in the Mental Ray Contour settings.  Maybe you can texture it?  I've never tried but perhaps that would simulate the PFX style without all the headache.

Let's see more WIP!
