Lighting Artist Job Description
Location: Vancouver, BC

Summary:
The Lighting Artist will light shots and sequences and may participate in some Look Development. The Lighting Artist will work within the lighting and rendering pipeline to see shots through from start to finish.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Create photorealistic CG lighting that meets all technical and aesthetic standards for the project.

Sr Database Administrator Job Description
Location: Vancouver, BC

Position Summary:
Digital Domain is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build and maintain database-driven applications. Some of these are exposed through web browsers and some run natively as PyQt. The position involves supporting both Windows and Linux systems in a high-availability, multi-site environment. The work is mainly in Python, but the ability to compile and install proprietary and open-source packages is required. You will configure and deploy servers and databases, as well as write and maintain code that uses these servers. There is a lot of scope for optimizing existing systems and schemas, as well as designing new approaches to managing the data that we generate each day (eg, NoSQL approaches, etc). This work will be done in small teams, often across site boundaries. This software environment is fast paced and varied, with customers located on-site or in other locations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and development work on applications which are PyQt interfaces connected to MySQL or PostgreSQL databases.
Design and development work on Python and PyQt applications which do not have database back ends, but which should be migrated to new architectures involving databases.
Database management of servers both local and remote.
Extensively involved with data transfer protocol.
Write /Review test plans and test cases for content, coverage, and adherence to department standards.
Perform functional and performance testing for web services.
Perform manual and automated UI tests for web and client server applications.

Animator Job Description
Location: Vancouver, BC

Summary:
The Animator will be responsible for producing animated elements, shots and sequences under the direction of the Lead Animator and the Animation Supervisor. The Animator will be expected to deliver key frame animation, as well as animation using motion capture data, to be used in a live action feature film or commercial.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Reports to Lead Animator or Animation Supervisor, depending upon size of team and established hierarchy.
Assignments will include animation tests, previs, layout, shots and finals; to be delivered to satisfaction and per delivery schedule.
Will need to produce high volume and multiple iterations of shots with speed and accuracy.
Artist needs to be able to function as a solo performer, and as part of a team.
Full participation to ensure that the highest quality of animation is being achieved on schedule.
Education, Experience and Skills Required:

Knowledge and work experience in Maya required.

Summary:
The FX Artist works closely with the FX lead and FX TDs to create high quality effects including rigid body and particle dynamics, volume modeling and rendering, procedural geometry generation and fluid dynamics.

Design and animate high quality, photo-real effects (fire, smoke, explosions, debris, clouds, etc) that meet all technical and aesthetic standards for the project.

Duties

• Monitor and manage the render farm processes with various productions
• Quickly solve any rendering issues, ensuring all 3D and 2D rendering is done on schedule
• Identify bottlenecks and help develop improved rendering efficiencies
• Design, develop, and maintain proprietary scripts used in production if appropriate, as applicable to improving efficiencies for the render farm

Qualifications

• Good understanding of film and VFX workflows and requirements
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills required
• A strong sense of self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision required
• Experience writing shaders for Mantra, or other production renderers desirable
• Linux scripting experience, especially in Bash/Python, desirable

The Lighting Technical Director is responsible for providing technical support for the Lighting department and helping to address shader, rendering, and lighting workflow requirements in cooperation with the Lighting Supervisor and CG Supervisor.

Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the CG Supervisor, Lighting Supervisor and production artists to develop and
maintain leading-edge proprietary tools/shaders/plugins/scripts used in lighting and shading.
Develop an expertise with production shaders in order to assist Lighting and Surfacing Artists in tuning
them for maximum rendering efficiency without sacrificing final look of the film.
Help to debug rendering issues in cooperation with other Lighting TDs.
Provide additional technical support, as needed.
Assist in the development of Production Technology tasks as necessary
Evaluate and recommend relevant external shaders/plugins/scripts as needed.
Provide training/tutorials to production staff.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the areas of rendering, lighting and shading.
Education/Experience:
Advanced degree in Computing Science, Mathematics, Physics or related disciplines is an asset
3+ years production experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of digital 3D animation and special effects.
Thorough knowledge of Maya and Mental Ray.
Thorough knowledge of UNIX/Linux, procedural and object-oriented programming languages, shader/plugin writing as well as shell/Perl/Python scripting.
Excellent problem solving, and communication skills.
Good artistic skills; demonstrable ability to make creative and aesthetic judgment calls.
Advanced C++ knowledge is an asset.
Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
