Hey guys, looks like so many @#!? bots like to spam in here.

I know SimpleMachines, there are a few plugins for SMF 1.1 to 2.0 that help to avoid them.

Preventing:

1 - reCaptcha: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1044

This is really good, probably the best one, powered by Google.
To use this plugin, you may need some encrypted keys for your domain, for free here: http://recaptcha.net/
You just need a google account.

It will add this when registering:

2 - Registration Puzzle: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1078

This just ads some challenges for the bots when registering.

Example, they will fail resolving this hahaha:

Blocking if they were good bots.

3 - Stop Spammer: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1547

Drastic measures, this will check the IP of the guy registering and compare it in the http://www.stopforumspam.com/ database (Common spamming bots IPs).
If they match it will block the user and will send it to the waiting approval from an admin.

4 - Stop Spam: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1519

This one is like the one above, BUT this one will just block the user, no chance to review it, so could be dangerous.

So I recommend the number 3 for blocking, you can manually delete the bots after the system blocked them.
Anyway, the recaptcha or the puzzele should be enough.

By the way, don't install both plugins for blocking and captcha, just one of each.

Hope it helps !
